How we grade
Every second-hand record and sleeve we stock is visually assessed using the international Goldmine grading standard. This means you know exactly what to expect, whether you're looking at the record itself or the sleeve.
The record: New, unplayed and completely free of wear marks.
The sleeve: In perfect mint condition, without any damage or wear. Usually still has the original seal.
The record: Nearly new and barely played. At most, very minimal wear marks and plays almost noise-free.
The sleeve: Nearly perfect. At most, a barely visible wear mark.
The record: Well-kept with only light wear marks. May have a few hairline scratches and plays with minimal noise.
The sleeve: Neat and well-kept. May show light wear on edges, corners or surface. The inner sleeve (OIS) may be torn at the seams and inserts may be missing.
The record: Played and shows visible wear marks. Light scratches and audible surface noise may occur, but the record plays through well.
The sleeve: Clearly used. May show wear, discolouration, creases or minor damage such as a small tear. Inner sleeve (OIS) may be missing or replaced, inserts may be missing.
The record: Well-played and shows clear scratches and wear. Surface noise is audible. The record may skip occasionally at this grade.
The sleeve: Fairly used and visibly worn. May have creases, discolouration, stickers, writing or damaged edges. Inner sleeve may be missing but replaced (no OIS). Inserts may be missing.
The record: Heavily used with many scratches and visible wear. Noise and clicks are clearly audible, the record may skip at this grade.
The sleeve: Heavily worn and possibly damaged. May have tears, loose edges, writing, stickers or considerable discolouration. Inner sleeve may be missing but replaced (no OIS). Inserts may be missing.
The record: Severely worn or damaged. May not play all the way through and can skip or stick. Best suited for collectors of rare titles or budget buyers willing to take a chance.
The sleeve: Heavily damaged, with stains, tears, stickers or covered in pen or marker writing.
The record: Only buy if you want the record as a collectible or if the release is nowhere else to be found. In very poor condition and possibly not playable. May be cracked, severely warped or heavily damaged.
The sleeve: Completely destroyed.
Our process
Every record is visually inspected under a 500W LED lamp for scratches, hairlines and dust residue.
Sleeves are assessed separately, taking into account ringwear, seam splits, creases, writing and stickers.
When in doubt, we grade on the lower side. We'd rather surprise you pleasantly than disappoint.
On the product page, you'll always find the media grade and sleeve grade listed separately.
